According to Deadline Hollywood, the studio already has a short list of possible directors. The names being volleyed around include Wes Anderson (The Fantastic Mr. Spiderman dons an orange cape and affected hipster nonchalance toward crime), James Cameron (Spiderman turns blue and terminates the Titanic), David Fincher (Spiderman puts the heads of evil doers in a box and gifts them to Brad Pitt), and Marc Webb.
"Who?" you may ask.
U.S. & World
The day's top national and international news.
Webb may not be a household name yet, but he will be. He made his feature film directorial debut with one of our favorite movies of 2009, "(500) Days of Summer" (speaking of, does anyone else think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would've been an amazing new Spidey if he were just a little closer to his "Third Rock From the Sun" years?).
While Webb doesn't have the backlog of material some of the other directors in contention have to prove his mettle, he has vision, panache, style and a great sense of visual storytelling. We'd love to see him grab the baton and run with it.
