Rock, Rock to the Planet Rock, Don't Stop at Maimonide of Brooklyn

On Wednesday, vegetarians, party-goers, and curious carnivores rocked the night away at Maimonide of Brooklyn in Boerum Hill to celebrate the grand opening of the new restaurant that serves “avant-garde vegetarian food for carnivores.”

Maimonide of Brooklyn Founder Cyril Aouizerate, legendary French chef Alain Senderens and executive chef Neal Harden hosted the party, or M.O.B scene, as one could call it after special guest and hip-hop legend Afrika Bambaataa surprised guests by banging out beats all night. And, of course, “Planet Rock” created a jovial frenzy (Remember this one?).

It was a celebration of everything Brooklyn and healthy living at M.O.B, which also pays homage to 90s hip-hop culture in its design. From the Brooklyn Bridge doorway arches to Brooklyn-engraved platters to the eccentric Brooklynite crowd, there was a clear theme.

Dishes included dried fruit saucissons, vegan chicken nuggets, and open-faced sandwiches that truly delighted the hungry party-goers. The smokiness and sweetness of the fruit saucisson was a surprising treat. And, the perfect richness of tapenade open-faced sandwich was a favorite.

Dancing the night away, perfectly satiated, and without a thought of meat—now, that was a good night in Brooklyn for this meat-eater.

Maimonide of Brooklyn is now open.
