Rihanna Safe, Concert Canceled Following Truck Attack in Nice

The singer was slated to perform Friday night at the Allianz Stadium in Nice

A spokeswoman for Rihanna, who is touring in France, said the singer is safe following a truck attack that left more than 80 dead and injured dozens more in Nice on Thursday.

The "Umbrella" singer is in France as part of the European leg of her Anti World Tour. She is OK despite being in the area when a truck mowed down members of a crowd after a fireworks show on Bastille Day, according to the spokeswoman.

The singer was slated to perform Friday night at the Allianz Stadium in Nice, but her concert has since been canceled. Nice's former mayor and city official Christian Estrosi tweeted that Rihanna's show, along with other planned social events in the city, will no longer take place.

The rough translation of the French tweet reads: "Tomorrow the flags of the city will be at half mast. After the cancellation of the Rihanna concert, jazz festival is canceled."

A large truck on Thursday careened down the Riviera city's famed waterfront promenade and through a crowd of citizens who had gathered to watch fireworks on Bastille Day, a French national holiday commemorating the storming of the Bastille and the unity of the French people.

Officials believe the attack was deliberate.
