MSNBC's Rachel Maddow described the presidential election season as “politics Christmas” for reporters covering it, in an appearance on “The Tonight Show" Wednesday.
“There’s no reason to sleep,” Maddow, the host of “The Rachel Maddow Show," told Jimmy Fallon.
She said Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson’s campaign has been “hard to follow” and things got even more complicated Wednesday, she said, when Carson told his supporters that he doesn't "see a political path forward" but didn't suspend his campaign.

She provided an insight into what the Republican party leaders might be thinking now that Donald Trump seems poised to clinch the nomination. She was confident in her belief that the Republican National Convention would ignore the will of the people and nominate someone else besides Trump.
“It’s really nutty,” she said. “That’s their plan right now. That’s what they’re going to do.”
Maddow noted that the Republican National Convention has the option to choose whomever they want to run in the general election.
“Nobody knows who they’re going to choose. It could be Mitt Romney,” she said to Fallon. “It could be you.”
And on the Democratic side, she marveled about the rush of donations candidate Bernie Sanders’ campaign has received without the help of super-PACs.
“The big advantage he has is that he’s crowd surfing a sea of money,” she said about Sanders. "He has so much money you wouldn't recognize a socialist in the crowd. He raised more money the day before yesterday than Marco Rubio raised all of January.”
She continued, “He has more money than anyone else in the race, Democrat or Republican.”
