President Trump Visits Brother Hospitalized in NYC

Robert Trump, brother to the 45th president, has been hospitalized in New York City, White House officials confirmed to NBC News.

Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere did not share what led to Trump's hospitalization, but a senior White House official tells NBC News he is "very ill."

President Donald Trump addressed his brother's health briefly in a Friday afternoon news conference.

“I have a wonderful brother,” he said. “We’ve had a great relationship for a long time. Hopefully, he’ll be all right. He’s having a hard time.”

The president visited his younger brother at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan wearing a face mask on Friday afternoon. The visit lasted just under an hour.

Trump was already planning to spend the weekend at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he had a event with the City of New York Police Benevolent Association to get their endorsement.

The president is said to have a "very good relationship" with his brother, the official said.

The president's younger brother, who is 72, spent 10 days in Mount Sinai's intensive care unit in June, according to the Daily Beast, for a serious condition.

One of the president's four siblings, Robert recently filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Trump family seeking to stop publication of a tell-all book by the president's niece Mary titled "Too Much and Never Enough." She is the daughter of the eldest Trump sibling, Fred Trump Jr., who struggled with alcoholism and died in 1981 at the age of 43.

Robert Trump had previously worked for his older brother as a top executive at the Trump Organization. Once a regular bold face name in Manhattan's social pages, he has kept a lower profile in recent years. He married his longtime girlfriend, Ann Marie Pallan, in March, according to the New York Post. He divorced his first wife, Blaine Trump, more than a decade ago.

In a 2016 interview with the New York Post, he described himself as a big supporter of his brother's run for the White House.

"I support Donald one thousand percent," Robert Trump said.
