Pneumonia-stricken George Michael Cancels Concerts

The 48-year-old singer is convalescing in Austria

George Michael has canceled a handful of upcoming tour dates as he recovers from a bout of pneumonia in a Vienna hospital.

The British pop star and former Wham! singer announced Wednesday that he was going to have to reschedule two more concerts — a pair of shows in Cardiff, Wales, this coming weekend — on top of the two he’d recently postponed.

Michael is currently convalescing in the Austrian capital’s Vienna General Hospital. He was supposed to perform in that city on Monday but had to cancel just two hours ahead of time to seek treatment. A performance in Strasbourg, France, was also canceled.

According to Michael’s website, the shows were scuttled as per doctor’s orders.

Michael kicked off his current tour, in which he’s backed by a full 41-piece orchestra, back in August despite having said several years ago that his 2008 performances would be his last.

After a spate of troubles with the law involving his pot-smoking habits, he said this year that he felt “re-energized,” BBC News reports. His current tour was to have had 47 dates.

There’s no word yet on when the canceled dates will be rescheduled.
