OW-OOOOO!!!! MTV Picks Up “Teen Wolf” Reboot

“Teen Wolf” is one of those movies I saw 900 times as a kid because I had nothing better to do. It doesn’t exactly hold up over time (unless your name is Bill Simmons), which is why MTV has decided to update the premise and turn it into a TV series. The Hollywood Reporter says:

MTV is set to grant a series order to "Teen Wolf."

Based on the 1985 Michael J. Fox film, the MTV series stars Tyler Posey (ABC Family's "Lincoln Heights") as a high school student who gets superpowers, including the ability to woo girls, after a wolf attack.

Tyler Posey? They totally picked an actor with the name Tyler on purpose. That’s Twihard baiting! Ain’t It Cool News is saying the pilot will directed by one of the guys behind “Criminal Minds”, and an MTV exec said the show will be “tonally reminiscent of ‘An American Werewolf in London.’” That movie was much more gory and sexualized than the original “Teen Wolf,” so I expect the new show to find a balance somewhere between the two.

MTV has a long history of successful original series, but when you think about it, virtually none of those series were fully dramatized. “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach” were staged, of course. But they still counted as “reality” shows. Otherwise, MTV’s history with non-animated fictional series is lackluster to nonexistent. They had “Undressed” on for a while, but it never caught on. So it’ll be interesting to see if they can break through that lifelong slump with “Teen Wolf.” One look at Tyler Posey’s dreamy locks makes you think it’s all too possible.
