U.S. Condemns Israeli Strike as Forces Withdraw

The State Department said Sunday that the United States was “appalled” by an airstrike near a United Nations school in Gaza, and called on Israel to “do more to meet its own standards and avoid civilian casualties.” Earlier in the day, the U.N. condemned the attack, which left at least 10 Palestinian civilians dead, as a “moral outrage” and violation of international humanitarian law. The news comes as Israel continues to pull most of its forces out of Gaza. However, Israel dropped leaflets over Gaza on Sunday warning that the battle is not over. Over 1,800 Palestinians and more than 60 Israelis have died in fighting over the last month.
