HP Kills Tablet, May Exit PC Business

Silicon Valley mainstay Hewlett-Packard is getting out of the tablet and smartphone business – and its PC unit could be next. Just two years since spending $1.8 billion on Palm for its webOS software, HP said it planned to kill its TouchPad and smartphone products, MSNBC reported. The company said it may also sell or spin off its PC division, which is the company’s biggest revenue booster but least profitable line of business. HP reportedly plans to focus on software and services like its rival IBM. As evidence of the shift, HP announced it was in talks with Autonomy Corp., a business software maker.
