The Guantanamo detainee who died under mysterious circumstances on Saturday is a 32-year-old Yemeni who was cleared for release in 2009, NBC News reported. Adnan Farham Abudul Latif appeared to win a milestone legal victory two years ago, when a federal judge ruled that his alleged ties to Al Qaeda were thin and he was being unlawfully detained by the U.S. But the Obama administration won an appeal, and Latif remained at Gitmo. "If this case doesn't draw attention to the injustice and cruelty at Gitmo, it's hard to see what would," said his lawyer, David Remes. "This is a guy who was cleared by a federal judge. He was widely loved among the detainees and he would not let Gitmo kill his spirit." Latif is the ninth detainee to die in custody since the prison opened in January 2002.
