Police said a North Texas mother was killed and her two children were injured when a wrong-way driver crashed into their SUV in Garland Saturday morning, police said.
Garland police said the driver of a blue Chevrolet Tahoe was heading east on westbound Interstate 635 when he crashed into the woman's white SUV near Jupiter Road just after 5 a.m.
The woman, 28-year-old Crystal Nuncio, who was driving, died instantly. She worked as a dispatcher for the Garland Police Department for 9 years, officials said.
Nuncio's 10-year-old daughter, Ally, was rushed to Children's Medical Center of Dallas, where authorities said she remains in critical condition. Her 9-month-old son, who was secured in a carseat, was also transported to Children's Medical Center.
The wrong-way driver, later identified as 25-year-old Luis Angel Rodriguez, was taken to a nearby hospital, but he is expected to be OK. Police said he faces one charge of intoxication manslaughter and two charges of intoxication assault.
The wreck shut down I-635 for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage.
Ally played softball in the Mesquite Fast Pitch Softball League. League members said they will hold a prayer group for her and her family the Mesquite Girls' Softball Complex at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
