MLB Brawl Breaks Out

A MLB bench-clearing brawl broke out once San Diego Padre Carlos Quentin rushed the mound after being hit by Los Angeles pitcher Zack Grienke.

A MLB bench-clearing brawl broke out once San Diego Padre Carlos Quentin rushed the mound after being hit by Los Angeles pitcher Zack Grienke. The highly paid Dodger broke his left collarbone in the collision. Click to see more photos of the slugger wrestling the right-hander.

After being plunked on the left shoulder in the sixth inning, Quentin walked towards the mound. Greinke fired a comment his way, and the batter charged the 2009 Cy Young winner.

Lowering his letter shoulder, Greinke would take the brunt of the blow. A result of the brawl, the Dodger suffered a fracture to the collarbone. As of yet, it's not known how long Greinke will be out.

Making reference to the fact that Quentin has twice before been hit by Greinke pitches, the Dodger was asked about the pair's bad blood. He said, "I never thought about hitting him on purpose. He always seems to think that I'm hitting him on purpose, but that's not the case. That's all I can really say about it," reported ESPN.

Even though the Padre has been hit 116 times throughout his career, he believes Greinke's hit was intentional.

Following the baseball brawl, Mark Kotsay #14 of the San Diego Padres and Jerry Hairston Jr. #6 of the Los Angeles Dodgers pushed Quentin off the field. He was ejected from the game.

Greinke joined the Dodgers as a free agent in the offseason, signing a $147 million, six-year contract. After just three starts, his return date is unknown.

But after the game, confrontation continued. Dodgers' Matt Kemp and Padres' Clayton Richard had their hands on each other in the tunnel walk-way exiting Petco Park.
