1 Dead, 16 Injured in Gulf of Mexico Oil Rig Fire

One contractor was killed and 16 others injured after a fire broke out on an oil platform Wednesday in the Gulf of Mexico, the state oil company Pemex told NBC News. Officials said about 300 workers were transferred out of the area located on the west side of the Yucatan Peninsula. Those hurt were Pemex workers, and two were being treated in the hospital in grave condition. Eight boats were brought in to fight the fire, the company said.
