Mazda Recalls More Than 161K Sedans

Officials with Mazda Motor Corp. have announced a recall affecting more than 161,000 Mazda6 sedans sold in the United States due to a problem with the screws that hold side doors in place.

The recall affects model years 2009 through 2013, the Japanese auto maker said, according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Officials said there is a concern that if door latch mounting screws come loose, the door could open while the vehicle is in motion.

Vehicle owners will be notified by Oct. 18, company officials said.

Owners may also contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500 and reference recall number 7013I, or contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.
