Spirit Flight Out of LAX Returns Due to Fumes in the Cabin

A Spirit Airlines jetliner that took off from Los Angeles International Airport today returned and landed safely after the crew reported "fumes in the cockpit and cabin,'' the Federal Aviation Administration reported.

The Airbus, flight 630 to Denver, landed without further incident about 9:50 a.m., the FAA reported.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the oxygen masks in the airplane deployed, and firefighters were waiting for the plane when it landed safely on Runway 25 Left.

One person was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, a Spirit Airlines spokesperson said.

"The aircraft in question has been taken out of service while our maintenance team inspects it. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we are currently working to accommodate our Guests on other flights," Spirit said.
