Jimmy Kimmel to Host White House Correspondent's Dinner

The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host set to perform for an influential audience

Jimmy Kimmel will get his chance to follow in the footsteps of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, and, well, Yakov Smirnoff (hey, it was 1988) when he hosts the 2012 White House Correspondent's Dinner.

Caren Bohan, the president of the White House Correspondents' Association, confirmed that the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host would be handling the emcee duties at the next official gathering.

"Jimmy's humor is sophisticated and edgy while appealing to a wide audience," said Bohan. "We are thrilled that Jimmy has accepted our invitation to be the featured comedian at our annual dinner."

The comedian himself also released a statement, saying: ""I look forward to being a part of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. I love dinner."

Proceeds from the dinner go towards journalism scholarships and awards. President and Mrs. Obama, among other big names, will be in attendance.

Last year's event was hosted by "Saturday Night Live" writer and performer Seth Meyers. The event will be held April 28th, 2012.
