The “Big Love” actress was taken aback by the uproar when she revealed she’s been on the program since she was in grade school.

“I was so shocked when it was this whole, ‘Ginny's been on a diet since she was nine years old!’ I was like ‘No!’ I've never had body issues, I've never had an eating disorder," she told People. “I've never had to go on a diet and that's because of Weight Watchers.”

Goodwin, 32, says she weighed just ten pounds less than she does today when she started Weight Watchers.

With the help of the program, which she says is not a “diet,” Goodwin has been able to stay svelte.

“With the counseling of my family doctor, my mother ended up turning to Weight Watchers and their children's program. I went to weekly meetings, got counseling and would exercise with my peers who were my size,” the actress told People.

The “Walk the Line” star says she no longer attends meetings but does interact with the group online.

As a child, Goodwin had to learn that a proper portion was one burger, not two. The actress says Weight Watchers helped her lose weight slowly and keep it off.

While she has sympathy for others in the movie business who are trying to shed the pounds, she frowns upon what she calls the “Cocaine and Cigarettes diet in Hollywood.”

“There's being healthfully skinny and then there's starting to look like a scary alien cat,” she said.
