Donald Spirit told a 911 dispatcher he had just killed his six grandchildren, including a baby and was going to wait until authorities arrived before going to his back porch and killing himself.
Law enforcement officials on Tuesday released the 51-year-old Spirit's 911 call. Spirit made the call Thursday from his mobile home in Bell, a rural north Florida town.
"I just shot my daughter and shot all my grandkids and I'll be sitting on my step and when you get here I'm going to shoot myself," Spirit told the dispatcher.
By the time deputies arrived, Spirit had killed himself, his daughter 28-year-old Sarah Spirit and her six children, ages 11, 9, 8, 5, 4 and a baby born in June.
After the dispatcher asks what kind of gun he has, Spirit told her it did not matter.
He said he'd already killed "six kids, one adult ... and one of them is a baby."
The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office said no clear or definitive motive for the shooting has been determined.
