Georgia killer Marcus Wellons was put to death Tuesday night in the first execution since a botched lethal injection of a prisoner in Oklahoma on April 29, according to NBC News. A second death-row inmate, John Winfield, was executed in Missouri just after midnight after his final appeal was also rejected. Death row inmates across the U.S. have challenged their planned executions over states' use of new drug cocktails and secrecy surrounding drug suppliers. Florida is set to execute a killer on Wednesday.
