Mexican authorities are investigating an alleged money laundering scheme between Kate del Castillo and drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.
Del Castillo helped arrange Sean Penn's Rolling Stone interview with Guzmán but Mexico's Attorney General Arely Gómez González believes that's not the only connection that del Castillo has with the drug lord.
According to NBC News, González confirmed in an interview with the national newspaper El Universal that her office has opened an inquiry into companies del Castillo owns or is associated with. González said that her office is looking into indications that the drug lord gave del Castillo "resources" for her liquor business, Tequila Honor Del Castillo.
Gómez said del Castillo — a dual U.S.-Mexican citizen who hasn't been charged with any crime — has the option to appear in Mexico or at the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles.
