A woman who pleaded guilty to randomly stabbing and killing another woman in a Maine supermarket over the summer was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
Connor MacCalister was convicted of murder in the August stabbing death of 59-year-old Wendy Boudreau at a Shaw's supermarket in Saco.
According to court documents, MacCalister told witnesses she did it because she was off her medication and Boudreau "looked at (her) funny." Police said in an affidavit that MacCalister later confessed to planning to kill "several random people" at the supermarket and claimed to be "angry with life."
MacCalister pleaded guilty in October over the objection of her lawyer. She apologized to Boudreau's family in court Monday.
Statements from several members of Boudreau's family were read aloud at MacCalister's sentencing hearing.
"This was a cowardly, senseless, savage act," Boudreau's husband, Jeff, wrote in a statement. "It is too bad Maine does not have the death penalty. Connor deserves it."
"We love you so much Grammy, and we miss you," read a statement from Boudreau's grandchildren.

Her sister, Patricia Parisien, described Boudreau as the "kindest, most gentle" person, and said the visuals of Wendy's wounds "are the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing I see before I sleep at night."
A transgender man formerly known as Tanisha Hopkins, MacCalister asked to be referred to as a woman during a recent court appearance.
