Ukrainian City Holds First LGBTQ Pride March

A group of about 20 radical youth protesters tried to disrupt the event

Community members and activists held the first-ever LGBTQ Pride march in Odessa, Ukraine, this past weekend, according to NBC News.

Authorities in Odessa banned the event the day before, and officials also prohibited outdoor events in the city during the time the march was supposed to take place.

Organizers eventually convinced authorities to allow the march, with police protecting the safety of those who took part.

A group of about 20 radical youth protesters tried to break through an area cordoned off by police in an attempt to disrupt the event. The police knocked them to the ground with batons. The LGBTQ participants were taken to a safe place.
