Man, 66, Bites Police Officer at Long Island Town Hall Meeting: Authorities

A 66-year-old man trying to get into a Long Island town hall meeting Tuesday without having his bag searched was arrested after allegedly biting a police officer, authorities say.

The man was trying to get into an open meeting in Huntington, where residents and town leaders were set to discuss a construction project in Elmwood, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Officers asked to search the man’s bag but he refused, police say. Then, when officer asked the man to leave, the 66-year-old ran into the meeting chambers.

Police chased the suspect down and tried to detain him, and that’s when he allegedly chomped down on a female officer’s arm.

The female officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The 66-year-old is charged with disorderly conduct, assault, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing. He was set to be arraigned in Islip on Wednesday.
