Police Investigate Viral Road Rage Incident on I-57 on Chicago's South Side

The incident took place on I-57 near Halsted Street on Chicago's South Side

The Illinois State Police has launched an investigation into a road rage incident involving a baseball bat on I-57 on Chicago's South Side after video of the encounter went viral. 

Police were called about the fight at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday morning in the inbound lanes of I-57 near Halsted Street. 

Video of the incident showed a driver of a black car who appeared to be holding a baseball bat cut off another driver in a Hyundai Sonata.

The driver of the black car then flug her door open, and appeared to hit the Sonata with the bat. Two women exited the Sonata, and a struggle ensued after the passenger started punching and pulling the other woman's hair. 

State troopers responded to the scene, but by the time they arrived, neither of the parties or witnesses were at the scene.

Illinois State Police said it "takes all cases of physical violence on our expressways seriously," and the investigation was in its preliminary stages on Friday.

Police urged witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the fight to call 847-294-4400. Callers can remain anonymous.
