Report Outlines Last Minutes of Florida Baby's Life

An arrest report details the final hours of a 2-month-old boy whose parents now face murder charges.

The report obtained Wednesday by The Sarasota Herald-Tribune states that Chance Walsh gasped for breath for hours after being beaten by his 36-year-old father, Joseph Walsh. Police said Chance eventually choked on a diaper wipe until he turned blue.

Authorities said neither Walsh nor Chance's 32-year-old mother Kristen Bury sought medical treatment. Both are charged with first-degree murder and child neglect and were brought back to Florida after being arrested in South Carolina.

Bury pleaded not guilty Tuesday. Walsh refused to attend a first appearance hearing Wednesday.

Bury has told investigators she and Walsh were arguing Sept. 16 when he began hitting Chance.

Investigators believe they found the child's body buried in North Port last week. Chance had been missing since Sept. 9. Police said they became involved when Chance's grandmother called them Oct. 4, concerned about the baby's well-being.

Records don't list attorneys for Walsh and Bury to contact for comment on the case.
