A plane headed to Turkey was diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Saturday after authorities received information of a bomb threat, NBC News reported.
The Turkish Airlines plane headed from New York City to Istanbul with 256 people on board landed safely in Halifax just before 1 a.m. local time (12 a.m. ET), the airport said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the plane was diverted due to "allegations of a bomb." The Halifax Fire Department said it was notified of "a possible bomb scare." Police said they were using dogs trained to detect explosives to check the plane.
A search of the aircraft and luggage did not turn up any explosive device, police said later, adding that the plane was scheduled to continue on to Istanbul later Sunday.
Authorities and airlines have been on alert since the terror attacks in Paris and the crash of a Russian Metrojet passenger plane in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. The terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks, and claimed a bomb took down the plane.
Correction: A previous version of this story said the flight was heading to Ankara based on information provided by Halifax airport. The flight was in fact headed to Istanbul, the story has been updated to reflect that.
