A naked 18-year-old man was arrested in Palo Alto on Friday night after a bizarre crime spree in which he allegedly attacked three people, police said Sunday.
Police said the violent spree began around 8:50 p.m. when the suspect entered a home in the 1100 block of Colorado Avenue through an unlocked front door. Once inside, he allegedly charged and punched a teenage boy, then fled on foot, police said.
As officers responded to the home, a resident in the 1000 block of Colorado Avenue called police to report that a naked man had just entered his home through an open front door and tried to attack him. That resident kicked the suspect, who again ran from the house until he reached the end of a cul-de-sac, which is where police found him.
"And this person who is totally naked tries to charge through the police officers to escape while swearing at them," neighbor David Otte said. "He runs into one of the officers, trips, falls, hits the asphalt, and must have hurt himself pretty bad with abrasions and then the police officers restrained him."
Police said officers learned later that the resident had opened his door to investigate after he heard screams and saw the suspect kicking and punching a woman in her 50s who had been walking her dog.
Officers found the suspect, identified as Daiki Glenn Minaki of Palo Alto, around 8:57 p.m. in the 2900 block of Otterson Court, according to police.
Police said Minaki charged at the officers and struggled with them for about a minute before they were able to handcuff him. As he was being handcuffed, the suspect spit blood on one of the officers, police said.
The 18-year-old displayed several symptoms of being under the influence of drugs and had cuts on his face and body, police said.
Minaki was booked into jail on suspicion of felony battery, resisting arrest, battery on an officer, being under the influence of narcotics and trespassing.
Police said the suspect did not know any of the victims in the case and appears to have targeted them randomly.
