Occupy Activist Convicted of Assaulting Cop

An Occupy Wall Street activist has been convicted of assaulting a police officer during a protest.

A jury convicted Cecily McMillan on Monday following a three-week trial in Manhattan. The 25-year-old graduate student faces up to seven years in prison.

She was ordered held without bail. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 19

Prosecutors say McMillan deliberately elbowed an officer in the eye as police cleared people out of the movement's home base in March 2012. Activists were at Zuccotti Park observing the movement's first six months.

McMillan's lawyers say she was just startled and knocked the officer accidentally after he grabbed her left breast from behind, leaving her bruised.

Lawyer Martin Stolar told the Daily News the judge committed numerous errors during the trial and that McMillan would appeal.
