A generous customer has paid $1,000 to pick up the tab for diners in dozens of vehicles at the drive-thru lanes of a West Texas fast-food restaurant.

KRBC, the NBC affiliate in Abilene, reports that on Monday at 7 p.m. a man handed over the cash at a Chick-fil-A in Abilene.

The man in the drive-thru lane told employees he wanted to pay for everyone behind him for as long as the cash lasted.

He told workers that his name is John, he just wanted to make everyone's Monday better and he handed over $100 bills —10 of them.

The franchise owner, Brian LaCroix, said the cash was enough to pay for drive-thru food for people in 88 vehicles over about an hour.

His actions would have many customers behind puzzled, and shocked. LaCroix said even a lady started crying after hearing about the story.

"She just had an awful day," LaCroix said. "We told her the story and she just started crying."

Management says they ended up giving the gentleman a free meal after giving the large sum of money. He ended up ordering an 8-piece chicken nugget with a Dr. Pepper to drink.

The anonymous gesture was buzzed around the restaurant the next day. The good deed continues to overwhelm some customers and the employees who were fortunate enough to witness him pay it forward.

    The donor's identity remains unknown.
