A Thompson, Connecticut, man is accused of hiding hundreds of bags of heroin in the bed where his three young children sleep and leaving stolen guns nearby.
Zachary Monahan, 27, was arrested on Wednesday after state police and members of a drug task force raided a home in the 400 block of Quaddick Road in Thompson. The raid, carried out around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, was part of an investigation into claims that a convicted felon had stolen guns and was selling heroin from his home.
When authorities searched the residence, they found 200 bags of what appeared to be heroin packaged to sell. Police said the baggies had been hidden in a a pillow on a bed where three children "tend to" sleep, according to the investigation report and a news release from police.
According to police, Monahan lives in the home with his 28-year-old girlfriend and his 1-year-old daughter, 3-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, as well as his girlfriend's mother and her boyfriend.
Investigators also found four stolen guns hidden throughout the property and the weapons were stolen during or connected to burglaries in Thompson and Woodstock, according to police.
Police reached out to the Department of Children and Family Services because the children were near the drugs and guns.
Police said they seized around $2,000 in cash and around $1,600 worth of heroin.

Monahan was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, operation of a drug factory, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was held on a $125,000 bond and was due in Danielson Superior Court on Thursday. Information on an attorney for Monahan was not immediately available.
According to court records Monahan was arrested during a traffic stop on July 2 and police found heroin and crack cocaine during a search.
