Man Credits Chihuahua With Fighting Off Intruders at Indiana Home

The 8-month-old pup reportedly bit the intruder's arm

A 62-year-old man is crediting his small Chihuahua with fighting off intruders at his Indiana home.

Roman Dickt said he woke up around 2 a.m. Monday to knocking on his door and the ringing of his doorbell at his home in Laporte, Ind., according to the Northwest Indiana Times.

Dickt reportedly opened his door and an intruder stepped in and punched him in the face. The punch sent him falling to the floor and he grabbed the intruder down with him.

That’s when Dickt’s 8-month-old Chihuahua, Charlie, came running out and started biting the intruder’s arm, the NWI Times reported.

Dickt said the dog’s attack gave him enough time to grab a machete next to his recliner. He then swung the machete at the intruder, who fled on foot.

Police canvassed the area but have not located the suspect, described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, standing about 6 feet tall.

Dickt said he never saw the man before and that the machete was part of his knife collection.
