Mother Who Was Hit, Killed by MTA Bus Was Going to Pick Up Child: Husband

The 41-year-old woman who was hit and killed by an MTA bus on a busy Brooklyn Avenue Wednesday evening was on her way to pick up her 9-year-old son, according to her husband.

Ruhksana Khan's husband Fayaz told NBC 4 New York that she was walking across Ocean Avenue in Midwood, just steps from their home, to pick up their 9-year-old son when she was fatally hit by an a BM1 bus.

"She takes our kids to school every day," the grieving husband and father of six said. "She was a good mother. The kids miss (her)."

Ruhksana Khan was taken to the hospital after the crash in critical condition, but she died not long after arriving in the emergency room. Her husband said that they will likely take her back to Pakistan, their native country.

Neighbors also mourned the 41-year-old's death.

"The kids are beautiful. She's a very nice, quiet lady," said one neighbor. "It tears me apart."

Wednesday's incident was the latest in a series of accidents in the city involving MTA buses making left-hand turns and hitting pedestrians, some fatally.

Surveillance footage from the scene of Wednesday's crash doesn't appear to show the bus making a left turn. The footage does show the impact of the bus throwing the 41-year-old woman's body into the middle of the street.
