House Republicans Prepare to Wrap Up Contentious Russia Investigation

"There is not a single soul with an open mind who is waiting on the House of Representatives' Russia investigation to unlock the mysteries of the world for them," said Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-SC

Senior Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee hope and expect to end their yearlong investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election in the coming weeks, NBC News reported.

The committee has largely completed its interviews in the narrow scope of the probe after talking to key witnesses almost every day in December, the members of Congress said. Democrats have requested as many as 30 more interviews but none have been scheduled in the new year.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-SC, said quickly finishing the interviews and issuing a final report is in the public's interest. He also suggested another probe, led by Robert Mueller in the Justice Department, will bring the most definitive final product.

"There is not a single soul with an open mind who is waiting on the House of Representatives' Russia investigation to unlock the mysteries of the world for them," Gowdy said. "There are people who've already made up their minds waiting to see whether or not their previously held conviction will be validated. But I think most people are waiting on Mueller."
