Bronx Dad Accused of Stealing Son's Identity

A Bronx man has been charged with stealing his son's identity to open multiple checking accounts, New York State Police say.

Jeffrey Harris was arraigned on charges of identity theft, falsifying business records and criminal impersonation.

Police say the 55-year-old Harris was arrested last week after a collection agency notified Harris' son of an outstanding debt.

Police say an investigation revealed that between 2008 and 2012 Harris had opened multiple checking accounts and made numerous purchases, including cell phones with service contracts, using his son's personal identification. Many of the fraudulent checking accounts were abandoned with negative balances.

Information on Harris' lawyer wasn't immediately available.
