Brian Williams to Anchor “NBC Nightly News” From Havana Wednesday

“NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams will lead Wednesday's broadcast from Havana, as new talks on renewing diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States begin.

The move, announced by NBC on Wednesday, comes just a month after the Obama administration announced plans to begin restoring diplomatic and economic ties with the Communist country. On Wednesday, the highest-ranking U.S. official to travel to Cuba in nearly 40 years departed for a new round of negotiations that could ultimately lead to the lifting of decades-old trade and economic restrictions.

Andrea Mitchell, NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent, and Gabe Gutierrez, another NBC News correspondent, will also be reporting from Havana, NBC announced. Williams last anchored from Havana in September 2006, during a summit there.
