Driver Dies After Crashing Into Lehigh University Bus

A driver died after crashing into a Lehigh University bus in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania Tuesday night.

The driver, later identified by state police as Rodney Dale Sigley Jr. of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, crashed into a bus carrying members of Lehigh University's crew team along U.S. Route 22 (Lehigh Valley Thruway) westbound near the Schoenersville Road Exit shortly before 6 p.m. (UPDATE: Police have released additional details on incident)

The crash caused the Freightliner bus to flip over and severely damaged the front end of Sigley's 2004 Acura CL, which then caught fire, said police. Sigley, who was 28, died at the scene after being partially ejected, said the county coroner.

Lehigh University officials said 18 students and a driver were on the bus at the time of the crash. They were treated at local hospitals and released and none of them were seriously injured.

"Our thoughts are with the students and their families, as well as the other individuals who were involved in this tragic circumstance," a school spokesman wrote.

Route 22 westbound was closed between Airport Road and Schoenersville Road as officials investigated.

Lehigh planned to have counseling available for any students who may need it.
