Ailing Alligator Gets CPR at Ohio Zoo

Zoo officials say the alligator's health continued to decline rapidly and he died Saturday night

An animal care team administered CPR to an ailing alligator in front of onlookers at an Ohio zoo, but it wasn't enough to save his life.

Splash, a 28-year-old alligator died Saturday at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

Zoo officials told WBNS-TV that the 300 pound male alligator had been under veterinary care for weeks because of a respiratory condition. A crowd watched Saturday as the team performed CPR and chest compressions.

Zoo officials said the alligator's health continued to decline rapidly and he died later that night.
