75 Scientists Possibly Exposed to Anthrax: CDC

Seventy-five scientists working in government laboratories are being offered treatment for anthrax "out of an abundance of caution" after they were possibly exposed to the deadly bacteria, the CDC said. "CDC is taking aggressive steps to protect the health of all involved, including protective courses of antibiotics for potentially exposed staff," said spokesman Tom Skinner in a statement. The potential exposure occurred after scientists working at the CDC's high-level laboratory in Atlanta failed to inactivate the bacteria before they passed it on to lower-security CDC labs not equipped to handle live anthrax.
