Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced a public health advisory against travel to states considered coronavirus hot spots.
The advisory includes nine states with coronavirus test positivity above 10%. Those states are:
- Florida
- Texas
- Georgia
- Louisiana
- Arizona
- Alabama
- South Carolina
- Nebraska
- Idaho
Anyone who must travel to those states should immediately get tested and self-quarantine upon their return.
D.C. issued restrictions on travel to 27 states earlier this week.
Maryland also is expanding its mask order, requiring face coverings in public areas of all businesses and commercial buildings, as well any outdoor public areas where maintaining social distancing isn’t possible. The order goes into effect Friday.
“Wearing a mask is the single best mitigation strategy that we have to fight the virus, and the science and data are very clear,” Hogan said.

Allowing bars and restaurants to be open with restrictions doesn’t appear to be an issue, the governor said. There have been scattered reports of businesses violating the law and compliance not being enforced, which is the responsibility of local authorities.
