Here's your latest Thanksgiving travel forecast from NBC Washington meteorologist Tom Kierein.
Temps are in the 40s and 50s today, but it's dry from New England to Florida, making for good travel weather pretty much all along the Eastern Seaboard. If you're traveling to the West Coast, you should have equally good experiences, with no inclement weather expected from Seattle to Los Angeles.
But if you're headed to the middle of the country, you might fare less well, with a major storm system affecting travel in the Upper Midwest. Snow is expected around Minneapolis, and rain in Chicago. Farther west, snow will fall from the Central Rockies to the Northern Plains, with heavy rain and thunderstorms in St. Louis.
Even though the weather may be fine here, flights to those areas still could be delayed. If you're heading toward those areas, you should check with your airline. Connecting flights arriving from those areas likely will be delayed as well on Wednesday.
Thanksgiving Day in the Washington region looks to be cloudy and seasonably cool with highs near 50. Some light rain will fall Thursday morning, with sprinkles tapering off around noon. About 30 to 40 miles north and west of the District, sleet may cause a few slippery spots on the roads around Loudoun County, Va.; Frederick, Md. and the panhandle of West Virginia.
Virginia Department of Transportation road crews sprayed chemicals on the Beltway, I-66, the Springfield Interchange, I -95 and ramps to the Wilson Bridge in anticipation of possibly icy weather and sleet Thursday, when low temperatures could reach freezing.
