‘Words Can't Express': Family Devastated After Father Killed in Hit-and-Run in DC

The victim was an Army veteran who was enjoying retirement

A family is devastated after a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a man in Northeast D.C.

Willie Ulysees Williams, 65, was crossing the 1500 block of Rhode Island Ave. NE  about 9 p.m. Tuesday night when a gray minivan with a bike rack on the roof hit him and kept on going, police said.

Police say Williams was walking outside of the marked cross walk.

"I don’t understand," William's daughter Yolanda Williams said. "How could you do this to someone?"

The impact knocked Williams out of his shoes. It happened just feet away from the apartment building where he lived with his wife.

Williams succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Wednesday, police said.

"That’s my dad. I love him to death and he knows it. His whole entire family knows it," Yolanda Williams cried.
