Police in Leesburg, Virginia, are warning residents after a woman driver told a girl to get in a car and then followed her when she wouldn't get in.
The 8-year-old girl was riding her bike Tuesday afternoon in the area of Meade Drive SW and Moore Place SW, when a woman driving by told the girl her mother was injured and was in the hospital. She told the girl to get in her car so she could take her to her mother, but the girl did not get in and raced her bike back toward her house.
The woman followed the girl until she turned from Harle Drive SW to Brumsey Court SW.
“You know, she’s a really smart kid and she kind of knew it wasn’t right right away. She was like I really don’t think my mom would’ve told somebody else to get me and I don’t really know, I don’t think so. So she kept going, but the woman followed her,” the girl's mother told News4. She did not want to be identified.
The girl rushed into her house and her mom called police before spreading the word of the suspicious woman to neighbors.
“We told everyone in the neighborhood, and we told everyone told be on the lookout and everyone went home that night and had a conversation with their kids about coming up with a code word, that just your family knows,” the mother said.
The woman was described as being in her early to mid 20s with a medium complexion and straight brown hair just past the shoulder. She had blue or green eyes and was wearing a light green shirt and a three-quarter sleeve denim jacket, police said. Her car was a silver or gray four-door sedan.

Police are asking anyone with information to call police at (703) 771-4515. Anyone who sees any suspicious activity in the area should call 911, police said.
Members of the Leesburg Police will be at the next HOA meeting on Monday, July 31st to answer any questions about the incident.
