Woman Struck, Killed Crossing Lee Highway

A Fairfax woman was hit and killed by a car early Wednesday morning as she crossed Lee Highway.

Pavithra Kenjige, 52, was walking toward the Centreville Metro Free Park and Ride lot shortly before 6:30 a.m. when she was struck by a Toyota Camry.

After suffering life-threatening injuries, she was transported to Fair Oaks hospital where she later died.

A 39-year-old man from Culpeper was driving the Camry that hit Kenjige. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. Detectives are currently investigating the accident.

In the past three years, more than 400 pedestrians have been struck and injured by crashes in Fairfax County. Police urge everyone to pay close attention to pedestrian safety rules, and acknowledge that both pedestrians and motorists are responsible for observing these laws.
