Woman, Girl Struck by Metrobus in Northwest D.C.

A woman and girl were struck by a Metrobus in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Northwest D.C. Wednesday afternoon.

The 18-year-old woman was trapped under an E6 bus at Broad Branch Road and McKinley Street before 3:30 p.m., D.C. Fire and EMS said. A 4-year-old girl in the woman's care also was injured.

The bus stopped in a crosswalk.

“I saw the lady,” witness Americo Colinbres said. “She was underneath the bus.”

D.C. Fire sent a rescue squad to the scene to remove the woman from under the bus. Witness Gary Stoner said she was stuck underneath the bumper.

"We kept her talking," Stoner said. "Making sure she could talk. Making sure she was alright. She did OK. She was calm."

The woman and the girl were taken to the hospital in serious condition, but they are expected to be OK.

The girl attends the preschool at nearby Lafayette Elementary School. School had just dismissed.

D.C. and Metro police also responded. Police interviewed witnesses on the bus.
