UPDATE: A person of interest has been taken into custody and is being interviewed by investigators, police said Friday.
A woman was sexually assaulted by a man who followed her after she left a mall in Greenbelt, Maryland, police say.
Greenbelt police said the woman reported she was shopping at Beltway Plaza about 9:45 p.m. on Monday when a man tried to talk to her.
The suspect was still trying to engage in a conversation with her when she left the mall, but they parted ways.
She walked across Breezewood Drive toward a house and encountered the suspect again. He took out a knife and threatened her before pulling her into a wooded area in the 5900 block of Cherrywood Terrace and sexually assaulting her, police said.
The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion, 5-feet tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a pink emblem on the front, dark pants and grey sneakers with green trim.
