Woman on Horse Fires Pistol When Asked to Leave Virginia Cemetery: Sheriff

Deputies say the woman was under the influence

Warren County, Virginia, is only about 75 miles west of Washington, D.C., but a recent incident involving two horses, a pistol and a cemetery conjures images of the Wild West.

Mariah Smith, of Arlington, and another woman were riding horses in a cemetery on Reliance Road in Middletown Saturday evening, the Warren County Sheriff's Office said.

Smith fired her pistol when someone told them to remove the horses from the cemetery property, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies detained the women after finding them nearby on Cauthorn Mill Road.

Authorities say Smith had a 38 Smith and Weston on her.

She was arrested and charged with three firearms charges, including possessing a concealed firearm while under the influence.

Authorities did not identify the other woman riding a horse and said Smith was the only one that fired the pistol.
