Woman Found Dead at Bowie Brush Fire Identified by DC Police

A woman whose body was found while firefighters battled a brush fire in Bowie, Maryland, this summer was identified Tuesday.

D.C. police say 24-year-old Marquita Lucas, of Northwest, was found dead on Saturday, Aug. 17 in the 3100 block of Mill Branch Road in Bowie.

Firefighters discovered her severely burned body after extinguishing a brush fire.

Family members told News4 dental records revealed it was Lucas.

Lucas was killed 22 miles away inside a home in the 3700 block of Horner Place SE in D.C., according to police.

D.C. police have not said how they know she was killed at the home or named any suspects.

Lucas' family says her ex-friend lived at the house.

An autopsy previously found Lucas suffered multiple injuries.

"[I'm] angry that someone felt they had a need to kill her," Lucas' aunt Eugena Beard told News4.

"She was caring, and she was a people’s person. A lot of people know Marquita," Lucas' sister Tina Lucas said.
