An 80-year-old woman who disappeared in Virginia while on a road trip has been found safe in West Virginia.
Catherine Hemlepp and her husband were driving separate cars from Pennsylvania to South Carolina when he lost track of her on Old Dominion Road in Fairfax County, Virginia, at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say someone was able to get in touch with Hemlepp at midnight, and she told them she was staying at the Shenandoah Motel in Winchester. But, police say the hotel does not exist. Investigators checked hotels in the City of Winchester and Frederick County, but they were not able to find her.
On Thursday, investigators found Hemlepp at a Best Western in Bridgeport, West Virginia, about three hours from Winchester. Police say a purchase made on her credit card helped them locate her.
Officers are on their way to West Virginia to bring her back to her husband.
