18-Year-Old Woman Killed in Double Shooting in Upper Marlboro

An 18-year-old woman died in a double shooting overnight, Prince George's County police said.

Allyssa Banks and an unidentified man were found shot in a car in the 10200 block of Prince Place in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.

"I heard four shots," one neighbor told News4's Megan McGrath. "I heard lots of screaming. I was too scared to look out of the window."

Banks was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police. The man's injuries are not life-threatening.

Banks and the other victim knew one another, police said, but the relationship between the two was not released.

She recently graduated from Largo High School and enrolled at Prince George's Community College.

"She wanted to be a psychologist to help people," said friend Gloria Poole.

Poole described her like a second daughter.

"I just called her my sidekick because we were always singing together," she said. "She was just a nice person."

She said Banks' mother is shaken up after losing her only child.

Investigators are still working to figure out what led to the shooting. Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call 301-772-4925.
