Woman Charged After Toddler Left Alone Calls 911: PD

A Woodbridge woman is facing a child neglect charge after the 1-year-old girl she left home alone called 911. Prince William County Police said Monday.

Police came to the home on Royal Court to investigate a 911 call they received Sunday night. When they arrived, they found the front door open and a small child alone inside the home.

Police say Falicita Ortiz Sorto, a relative of the child, returned to the home a short time later.

Sorto was charged with abandonment of an infant.

In the past week, Prince William County Police have made two other child neglect arrests.

On Sunday, a Prince William County officer stopped a vehicle in Nokesville for a suspected DUI. Police say the driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Jose Rufino Calleja Soto, was intoxicated. A 12-year-old girl who is related to Soto was also in the car. Soto was charged with felony child neglect, driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license.

Last week, police arrested and charged a woman with felony child neglect after her 3-year-old son tried to cross a major roadway alone. The boy was spotted walking by himself about 3:40 p.m. Friday and trying to cross Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge, Va., police said.

When police found the child's home, the front door was ajar. His mother, Kiara Leshaun White, 24, was asleep inside, police said.

White was charged with felony child neglect and is due in court October 8. The child was not harmed and is in the care of other family members, police said.
